In real life, some of these desires might already be fulfilled, and some you are trying to fulfill while there are some others you might not be able to satisfy your whole life.

But as an author, you are the master of your novel, so you can feel free to have whichever of your main characters’ desires fulfilled. In this way, your readers will feel excited when they read your books and put themselves in the shoes of the characters.

Remember, people read novels not only for killing the time or for interest, but also for releasing their emotions.

What is desire? It is the pressure you feel when certain need is not met. The relations should be pressure-> desire-> the action you take to fulfill the desire. Simply put, when you wake up the eight desires of people, you will manage to inspire them to take action to fulfill them.

Now, let’s look at a concrete example related to the desire of being free from fear, pain and danger. This can be commonly seen in fantasy. People like the story because the main character, whatever magic they might use, can always successfully get rid of the monsters and be safe.
