Romance should cover all sexuality
Last week, we discussed the value of two kinds of LGBT novels in the current market, namely, serious novels that reveal the life of LGBT and popular novels that borrow the identity of LGBT. Today, this article briefly shares LGBT novels on the GoodNovel platform.
The genre proportion of LGBT novels on GoodNovel is consistent with that of the whole novel market, that is, romantic novels are still the mainstream of LGBT novels. LGBT Romances can be subdivided into two categories, one is to make use of LGBT identity to increase the tortuosity of the story, and the other is to ignore the identity of LGBT and only start the story from the intimate relationship.
Category 1: Use the obsession with the identity of LGBT to increase the twists and turns of the story.
This kind of novel lays contradictions for the story with the help of the identity dilemma currently faced by the LGBT group and then overthrows the “moral” world with uncontrollable love. The common contradictions in novels are as follows:
1. Family members cannot accept LGBT identity, such as
Daddy By Ronan
Brief: Kicked out from his family because of his sexuality, Ashton needed to find a shelter, so he decided to post on his Twitter account asking for help in exchange for his body. That’s where he met Zie Mendez, the CEO of Mendez Publishing Inc. Zie is willing to give him a temporary shelter if only he agrees to be his bed warmer. Ashton who’s desperate for a shelter leaves no choice but to agree.
Sweetly Tempted By Cassandra Kim
Brief: Flynn inherited his father’s business at 18 and is secretly gay. He’s very far into the closet due to his upbringing. Lucas, his new employee is the opposite. He’s openly gay and very flirty. Or rather, he constantly flirts with Flynn. As time passes, Flynn finds it harder to pretend that he’s not gay and that he doesn’t like Lucas as more than his best employee. He’s also been plagued by dreams that seem to be from his childhood where he made a promise with someone who feels like Lucas. Lucas’ problem is that Flynn doesn’t remember him and doesn’t feel he deserves to be happy. Lucas’ mission is to make Flynn happy, but it’s going to be a hard one.
2. Confused about his/her sexuality, such as:
The Bachelors Getaway (BxB) By Ashe Alberts
Brief:Lee, Simon, Hans, Elliot, Dylan, Carlisle, and Steffan are close friends ever since they were in middle school. But as they became mature and grew as sought-after and eligible bachelors in society, it was extremely hard for them to see each other and get together. Lee then thought it would be a wonderful idea if they take a week-long vacation, just so they could enjoy themselves, become reunited, and chill while far from the stress and noise of the city. However, this same week-long getaway will become the beginning of the romantic and steamy relationships between some of them, waking up their desires towards each other that have been bottled and unbeknownst to them for some while. The hidden love and desire they hid from each other will slowly be revealed, and with this, will they all stay as friends? Or will completely take over?
Category 2:Weaken the LGBT identity and start the story only from the intimate relationship.
The authors of this kind of novels do not use the identity of LGBT as the contradictory point of the story but continue to lay the contradictory point as did for the ordinary love story. When reading this kind of story, the reader will be much less sensitive to the protagonist’s sexual orientation. Such novels are as follows:
Highschool Day’s By NeeNia
Brief: Sweet innocent and adorable Braze just transfers to a new school where he meets Someone special. He also makes some special friends. But his dark past is still hunting him, will be able to face his past again and know a big truth which nearly cost his life. Brandon is a famous bad boy, smart confident. But what happens when he fell for an awkward person. Let see how they service their highschool Days with all the mystery around them.
Falling, Fallen By Sarah. S. Malin
Brief: Roy Blanche doesn’t do love and cares less about how others view him. But a chance encounter with a freshman of his college, Jeremy Dahl, changes everything. Jeremy can evoke the long-dormant emotions in Roy and hence Roy has started thinking otherwise. You know it, the feeling of being in love, just beautiful.
Seeing the trend of the categories of LGBT novels, I can’t help but arise a question: when the identity dilemma of LGBT groups is solved by the times, what kind of LGBT novels will be born? No matter where the LGBT+ novels go, they will be more numerous and diverse in the future.
