But, before you start, we would like to show you some steps for writing a teen novel.
1. We suggest that the female lead and male lead should always be in love. Whether it’s love at first sight or love over time, they may not even like each other at first, but there is a chance that they turned lovers from enemies.
2. Set up more obstacles for the relationship between the two main protagonists. For example, the two sides of the status gap, or families do not agree on the relationship, and so on to create conflicts.
3. Set up a competitor for the relationship. For example, there are many boys go after the female lead, or love- triangle.
4. When you write a supporting character, you can think ahead of time about their story, and if you write it well, you can use the main character to start a new novel, and you can derive a story about the main character.
5. The protagonists have a thing for each other. The uncertain relationship could make them fall.
6. Setting misunderstandings might increase the readability of the story. This could give your story a twist and turn, but don’t forget that excessive misunderstandings might lead to your characters interpreting their own situations.
When you write about teen fiction, you should know what kind of people your readers are. Their age range, their environment, the people and things that matter to them. School is a small society, in this small society, what is the idea you want to convey? I think in addition to describing the character growth and love, there are other feelings, family, friendship.
Of course, it’s essential that romance novel is still about love, but we also need to be guided by the value of the story, for example, address the issue of bullying, to show what kind of meaningful story you want to write.
